Expanding our horizons…

Concert in Nowra

Steel City Strings is the South Coast and Illawarra’s own professional string orchestra performing favourite classics and thrilling modern orchestral works. Regularly attracting sell-out audiences at Wollongong Art Gallery, Steel City Strings now brings its magic to Nowra for the first time.

The Studio at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre, Nowra  will be the venue for our next concert on

Sunday 5th June at 2.30 pm

If you are a Nowra local this will be of special interest  as we have a soloist and two section leaders  who live in your area.

The concert will feature Nowra’s own Joanna Landstra (pictured above) viola, with Kyle Little, violin in Mozart’s fabulous double string concerto , Symphonie concertante for violin and viola.

Section Leaders Jacob Antonio (violin) and Karella Mitchell (cello) will also be on stage.

The 20 strong string orchestra is joined for this performance by local wind players, including oboes, French horns and bassoon, to offer authentic performances of works by Handel, Haydn, Fasch and Sibelius.

Also joining the orchestra will be guest conductor Louis Sharpe, and guest concertmaster Shaun Warden.

In Debussy's Sacred and Profane Dances of 1904 the orchestra was joined by harpist Paulina Smirnov whose scintillating playing created a wonderful and subtly-nuanced centrepiece for the concert.

A fascinating program of works from various musical periods... The orchestra played with a strong sense of ensemble, and brought an infectious verve to the Mozart.
